  • Aetna CVS Health on Thursday announced an expansion of hybrid-branded insurance in Florida
  • The new plans combine insurance coverage from Aetna with comprehensive health care services from CVS Pharmacy and MinuteClinic facilities
  • Initial coverage is limited to 20 Florida counties, but encompasses some of the state’s largest urban centers such as Jacksonville, Miami, and Orlando

Aetna, an insurance provider under the CVS Health branch, will offer Aetna CVS Health hybrid-branded insurance through the individual insurance exchange marketplace in Florida.

Aetna CVS Health Individual and Family Plans will combine insurance coverage from Aetna with affordable care options at CVS Pharmacy and MinuteClinic locations across the state.

“With millions of Americans being uninsured or underinsured, our plans provide quality care, at an affordable price and the ability to conveniently access this care using virtual technology and in-person care in their communities,” said Angela Burrafato, MD, Sr. Medical Director, Florida, Aetna. “By bridging the gap between people and the support and services they need, we can offer a human-centered approach where, when, and how they need us.”

The revamped insurance plans offer comprehensive care across Aetna’s network of primary care doctors, specialists, and hospitals, as well as plans that include in-network $0 virtual and walk-in clinic care.

Comprehensive care includes pediatric services, including oral and vision care, ambulatory patient services, hospitalization, prescription drugs, and rehabilitative and habilitative services, among others.

“We understand that everyone has their own unique circumstances and making health care simple, easy and affordable is how we are meeting them where they are on their journey,” said Rich WeissFlorida Market President, Aetna. “We’re ensuring more Floridians – and Americans – can get access to Aetna’s quality care. We are uniquely positioned to work with consumers to achieve better outcomes across our local provider networks along with MinuteClinic, CVS HealthHUB and CVS Pharmacy locations, and our virtual care options.”

In 2018 CVS Health purchased Aetna for $69 billion, with Aetna selling for $212 per share. The total value of the transaction, including assuming Aetna’s debt, was $78 billion.

The deal saw CVS move to a more traditional healthcare provider role, while Aetna was able to expand the scope of its coverage capabilities.

“This is the next step in our journey, positioning the combined company to dramatically further empower consumers. Together with CVS Health, we will better understand our members’ health goals, guide them through the health care system and help them achieve their best health,” added Mark T. Bertolini, Aetna chairman and CEO at the time of the acquisition. “Aetna has a proud tradition of continually innovating to address unmet consumer needs and providing leading products and services to the marketplace.”

My daughter has Aetna hmo CVS and there is no one that accepts that. We are extremely frustrated and disappointed with the insurance scam that both insurance companies and pharmacies are shoving down our throats. She is in desperate need of medical attention but is getting nowhere. It’s very upsetting seeing my first born having this much trouble in the country that is supposed to be “for the people”
