Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier on Friday endorsed Evan Power in his bid for Congress, adding backing to the Republican primary contest in Florida’s 2nd Congressional District.

Power, a Tallahassee-based political organizer and current chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, framed the endorsement as support for a candidate aligned with conservative priorities on public safety, border security and law enforcement.

“I’m honored to earn the endorsement of Attorney General James Uthmeier,” said Power. “James is a fearless conservative who has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with President Trump and Governor DeSantis to take on the Left’s reckless agenda. Attorney General Uthmeier knows what it takes to fight – and win – for Florida. In Congress, I’ll bring that same toughness, always backing the men and women who keep our communities safe and standing strong for conservative values.”

Uthmeier, who is seeking re-election as attorney general, praised Power’s role in grassroots organizing and his commitment to advancing the agenda of President Donald Trump.

“Evan Power is a proven grassroots leader who helped build the strongest conservative movement in the country,” Uthmeier said in a statement, adding that he was confident Power would stand with Trump and defend Florida’s values in Washington.

Power has led the Republican Party of Florida since January 2024 and previously chaired the Leon County Republican Party. His tenure has emphasized voter registration growth, party organization and campaign infrastructure. Republicans now hold a voter registration advantage of more than 1.4 million voters statewide, according to party figures.

Before becoming state party chairman, Power worked for U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and served as vice chair of the Republican Party of Florida. He has also been a three-time delegate to the Republican National Convention and served as a member of the Electoral College in 2024.

Florida’s 2nd Congressional District, which includes parts of North Florida and the Panhandle, is considered safely Republican.
