Americans for Prosperity Action on Wednesday endorsed U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds in Florida’s 2026 race for governor, pledging to mobilize its statewide grassroots network to support his campaign ahead of the Aug. 18 Republican primary.

The political advocacy organization said it plans to deploy volunteers and voter outreach efforts across the state to educate and mobilize voters on Donalds’ behalf during the primary contest.

In a statement announcing the endorsement, AFP Action senior adviser for Florida Skylar Zander said the group supports Donalds’ policy positions on housing, insurance reform, education and fiscal oversight.

Zander said the organization expects Donalds to continue advocating for policies aimed at stabilizing Florida’s property insurance market, including protecting the state’s 2023 tort reform laws. The statement also highlighted Donalds’ support for efforts to reduce the size of Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, Florida’s state-backed insurer of last resort, by shifting policyholders back into the private market.

“Congressman Donalds built a strong policy record for himself during his time in Congress, and AFP Action is confident that he will continue to be a leader on housing and insurance reform, education, and fiscal oversight as governor,” Zander said. “We are glad that Congressman Donalds wants to protect Florida’s 2023 tort reform laws and to continue depopulating Citizens Property Insurance Corporation. He is a strong supporter of school choice, having passed legislation that created the Hope Scholarship.”
“Congressman Donalds is running a campaign grounded in real solutions—tackling the big challenges facing Florida today and building a stronger future for families through proven conservative policies and strong principled leadership. AFP Action is thrilled to support Donalds and looks forward to deploying our grassroots network on his behalf,” he continnued.

Donalds, a Republican representing Florida in Congress, is among the candidates seeking to succeed term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis in the 2026 election.
