Americans for Prosperity endorses Governor DeSantis for re-election

The political arm of Americans for Prosperity backed Governor Ron DeSantis‘ re-election bid on Monday.

Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action) announced today that it is officially endorsing DeSantis’ gubernatorial re-election campaign, promising to leverage its grassroots outreach and resources to ensure that he secures a second term as governor.

“Gov. DeSantis has been a champion for Floridians through difficult and challenging times, and he has succeeded with his economic freedom-oriented approach,” said AFP Action Senior Advisor Skylar Zander. “His support for policies— from reducing spending to expanding school choice — have caught the attention of people across the country who want to live in a state where the government respects and empowers its people. AFP Action volunteers across the state are ready to turn out to support his reelection.”

AFP Action highlighted that DeSantis earned the endorsement for his commitment to Floridians living paycheck-to-paycheck amidst economic woes — like crippling inflation and disruptions in the supply chain — that continue to impact Florida and the U.S. economy.

“Gov. DeSantis earned AFP Action’s endorsement because he has been a champion of Florida taxpayers and people living on fixed incomes who are watching helplessly as their hard-earned paychecks and life savings are ravaged by inflation,” AFP Action said in a statement. “The governor has continuously demonstrated concern for taxpayers by vetoing more than $1 billion in projects in 2021 that wouldn’t benefit all Floridians. He also ended recurring projects in the budget that were clear cronyism or irresponsible.”

The free market group also noted the Governor’s work in expanding access to health care and providing Florida families with more educational opportunities.

“Gov. DeSantis moved $5 billion of Florida’s federal COVID funds to Florida’s reserves, unlike other spendthrift states recovering much slower than Florida. His work in health care, such as eliminating certificate of need, has expanded Florida residents’ access and quality of care,” AFP Action continued. “A leader on expanding education opportunities, Gov. DeSantis supported creating the Florida Empowerment Scholarship program and subsequently expanded it so more students can access the education environment that’s right for them.”

Today’s announcement comes on the heels of AFP releasing its first round of Florida legislature endorsements last month. The eight House candidates and five Senate candidates to earn AFP Action’s support included Representatives Paul Renner (HD-19), Stan McClain (HD-27), Mike Giallombardo (HD-79), Bob Rommel (HD-81), Lauren Melo (HD-82), Tom Fabricio (HD-110), Alex Rizzo (HD-112), Juan Fernandez-Barquin (HD-118), as well as Senators Keith Perry (SD-09), Debbie Mayfield (SD-19), Ray Rodrigues (SD-33), Manny Diaz Jr. (SD-39), and Ana Maria Rodriguez (SD-40).

AFP Action also recently endorsed three U.S. House incumbents. The Republican trio earning the seal of approval included U.S. Representatives Kat Cammack (FL-03), Scott Franklin (FL-15), and Maria Elvira Salazar (FL-27).
