Annette Taddeo debuts on prediction markets, trails gubernatorial field

by | Oct 20, 2021

Days after announcing her gubernatorial bid, Democratic State Senator Annette Taddeo‘s contract opened on Predict It well below the competition.

The betting proposition, which launched in April on the online prediction market, shows Taddeo’s contract opening at $.02 Yes price. Taddeo’s price sits well below her Democratic opponents, with Democratic Congressman Charlie Crist and Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried neck and neck, trading at $.13 and $.12 respectively. While Crist holds a small advantage, the former governor’s price has dwindled over the past few weeks — down seven cents from September 1. Likewise, Fried has also seen her stock on the betting prop stall out — with no long term change since the start of August.

Meanwhile, Governor Ron DeSantis continues to dominate the entire gubernatorial field with a $.78 Yes price — hovering around that price point since the start of October.

Taddeo, a Miami Democrat who has represented District 40 in the Florida Senate since 2016, announced her candidacy on Monday, adding another high-profile name to the quest to unseat DeSantis. While it remains to be seen if Taddeo has enough to overcome the name recognition attached to the Fried and Crist campaigns, the 54-year-old Colombia native believes she can be the one to earn her party’s confidence to turn the governor’s mansion blue in 2022.

“I believe we can inspire Floridians to raise their sights and elect a Governor to represent all Floridians,” Taddeo said in a video released Monday. “I am a life-long Democrat and I am running for Governor because Florida, I believe in us. With our fighting spirit, there is no limit to how high or how far we can fly.”
