Broward Health announces series of executive hires

  • Broward Health, one of Florida’s largest health providers, announced a number of executive hires made throughout July and August
  • Personnel additions include the roles of Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief of Emergency Medicine
  • Two internal promotions were announced, filling the vacant positions of Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Corporate Communications and Marketing

Broward Health, a leading health provider in Florida, announced on Tuesday a series of executive hires made across the summer months. The additions include critical executive positions like Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Medical Officer.

Matthew Garner joined Broward Health as interim Chief Executive Officer of Broward Health North on Aug. 29. Garner was most recently the president and CEO of North Shore Medical Center in Miami. Prior to joining North Shore Medical Center, Garner served as the chief operating officer at Florida Medical Center in Lauderdale Lakes.

In addition, Alan Whaley was brought on to serve as Broward Health’s Chief Operating Officer in July 2022. Whaley previously worked as chief operating officer for the University of South Alabama Health System, where he led that organization through a period of growth and financial improvement.

Joshua Lenchus was promoted to the position of Chief Medical Officer of Broward Health after serving as the system’s interim chief medical officer for one year.

Lenchus was also recently installed as the president of the Florida Medical Association.

Jennifer Connelly-Rosati is set to become the Chief Financial Officer of Broward Health Medical Center. Previously, Connelly-Rosati was the vice president of corporate finance for Memorial Healthcare System, serving in the role for more than five years.

Lastly, James Roach will join Broward Health as its Chief of Emergency Medicine for the system and chief medical officer of Broward Health Medical Center in early October.

Roach serves as medical director for Broward Sheriff’s Office, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, and Sunrise Fire Rescue. Previously, Roach was the regional chairman of Cleveland Clinic Florida’s Emergency Medicine Institute.

Broward Health also announced a second internal promotion: Jennifer Smith was promoted to Vice President of Corporate Communications and Marketing, after having previously served as associate vice president of the health system’s communications and marketing division.
