Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that state law enforcement agencies will provide additional personnel and resources to support local authorities during the upcoming spring break period, continuing a years-long efforts to maintain public safety amid the annual influx of visitors.
DeSantis stated during a press conference in Miami Beach that the Florida Highway Patrol began deploying troopers on Feb. 27 in response to requests from 12 agencies and will continue operations through April. More than 100 troopers have been assigned statewide, with additional resources, including drones, aircraft, armored vehicles, and K9 units, on standby.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reported that similar measures in 2024 resulted in more than 140 state troopers assisting local police, including nearly 50 in Miami Beach. The enforcement yielded 36 felony arrests, 51 misdemeanor arrests, 11 DUI arrests, and the seizure of 12 firearms statewide. 4,275 moving violations and 259 commercial vehicle citations were also issued statewide.
Dave Kerner, executive director of the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, said state law enforcement remains committed to ensuring a safe spring break experience.
“From Miami Beach to Panama City Beach, state troopers will be amplifying local law enforcement officers,” he said.
