DeSantis weighs in on state’s largely successful efforts to prevent riots, looting

by | Jun 3, 2020

Governor Ron DeSantis issued a statement thanking state and local leaders for their partnership to keep Floridians safe. The governor has mobilized 700 Florida National Guard soldiers and coordinated more than 1,300 sworn Florida Highway Patrol troopers to support local law enforcement efforts.

DeSantis addressed the loathsome murder of George Floyd last week in Minnesota. He also expressed that violent activity has no place in Florida.

“Florida has zero tolerance for violence, rioting and looting. George Floyd’s murder was appalling, and the Minnesota perpetrators need to be brought to justice, but this cannot be used as a pretext for violence in our Florida communities,” said DeSantis.

The governor says he’s been in contact with local and state leaders across the state in an effort to keep Floridians safe during a weekend filed with unrest and protest.

“I am in constant contact with state and local leaders, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the Florida National Guard and the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). We have devoted significant resources, including the mobilization of 700 Florida National Guard soldiers who are specially trained to support law enforcement,” said DeSantis, “I have also worked with FHP to coordinate more than 1,300 sworn Florida Highway Patrol troopers to support local law enforcement efforts. We will continue to do everything necessary to keep residents safe.”

He also mentioned his contact with other leaders to address the situation.

“Over the past 48 hours, I have spoken with President Donald J. Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, Florida Senate President Bill Galvano, FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen, Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Jared Moskowitz, Florida National Guard Adjutant General James Eifert, FHP Director Colonel Gene Spaulding, Broward County Mayor Dale V.C. Holness, Ft. Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, Representative James Bush, Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer, Boca Raton Police Chief Michele Miuccio, Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry, Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor and Senator Darryl Rouson,” said DeSantis.

“I thank these leaders for their continued partnership and efforts to keep Floridians safe.”

Like he had anything to do with it. 100 troopers and 700 guards in the state isn’t even a small city’s worth. What needs to be done is get rid of police unions, make drugs a medical problem instead of a pollical way to put those you want in jail and the cause of so much racism. For instant even though blacks were 50% less likely to have drugs, they were pulled over 3x as much.
And retrain cops, teach them restraints that don’t kill. Like in Floyd’s case all the murder had to do is lift up on the handcuffs if he moved. But you could see how he enjoyed it. and how the other 3 did nothing or helped kill him for 2 minutes after he was
    obviously dead.
Nor is it over when the Villages, rural Florida gets hit especially if the repub convention comes here, there is still 95% to infect, % die thanks to reopening early, in October.
Luckily people here except SE, locked themselves down 2 weeks before DeSantis did yet DeSantis claims it was his fast efforts!!
But that doesn’t mean it is gone as idiots especially on the right that don’t social distance will make sure of that.
And to Trump, keep up the good work as the best thing Biden has, sit back and let Trump’s mentally ill need for attention, getting revenge on those who point out his lies and lying to everyone’s face time and time again and the destruction of the repub party, thanks.
A lot of repubs are decent people and they won’t vote for Trump, many leaving the party that left them.

Thank you, Governor DeSantis for not waiting to call up National Guard. Your early actions show you mean business and will no doubt call in more guard if needed. The Republican party stands firm with President Trump’s excellent leadership. I hope you will contact him about bringing the RNC to Orlando! The great state of Florida has a great governor!!! 452020!

Lenny Curry, the Mayor of Jacksonville gave permits to protesters to enter neighborhoods.
There is no reason that should be allowed. The homeowners were so fearful that they stood in front of their homes giving out water and fruit to appease the protesters in hopes that their property would not be destroyed. There is no reason for anyone to be on my street/neighborhood unless they live there or are a guest of a homeowner. I have addressed this on a local level with no response. I live where I live for safety reasons, Lenny Curry is legally allowing unwanted people to enter neighborhoods. I want a law that stops this kind of protest permit.

What is the most glaring political issue facing Floridians ahead of Legislative Session?
