The Florida Board of Governors on Friday unanimously confirmed Moez Limayem as the next president of the University of South Florida, finalizing his selection to lead one of the state’s largest public universities beginning in early 2026.
Limayem currently serves as president of the University of North Florida, a role he has held since 2022. His appointment represents a return to USF, where he previously spent a decade as dean of the Muma College of Business before leaving to lead UNF.
“I am humbled and honored by this opportunity,” Limayem said. “I am grateful for the hard work of the students, faculty, staff and community leaders who have invested in this university. Together, we will write the University of South Florida’s next chapter as a national model of excellence that transforms lives and strengthens Florida’s intellectual, economic and civic landscapes. I am also deeply appreciative of President Rhea Law’s commitment to elevating USF academically and reputationally. Her impact has strengthened this institution and positioned us for continued excellence.”
During his tenure at UNF, the university recorded its largest incoming class and highest overall enrollment since its founding in 1972, according to university officials. UNF also achieved a record first-year retention rate and led the state in the percentage of bachelor’s degree graduates employed in Florida. Limayem’s administration emphasized community engagement and partnerships with employers.
As dean at USF, Limayem oversaw more than $126 million in private fundraising for the Muma College of Business, including a $25 million gift from Pam and Les Muma in 2014 that was then the largest single donation in the university’s history. He also led initiatives aimed at expanding internships, career placement and workforce preparation.
Limayem holds an MBA and doctorate from the University of Minnesota and previously served as associate dean at the University of Arkansas’s Sam M. Walton College of Business. His wife, Alya, is a biology professor and researcher at UNF.
