Florida gas prices have surged 84 cents over the past 12 days, reaching a statewide average of $3.72 per gallon on Sunday as volatility in global fuel markets continues to push pump prices higher.
According to AAA, the increase marks the fastest pace of gas-price growth in Florida in four years and brings the state’s average to its highest daily level since August 2023. The latest average is 27 cents higher than a week ago, 84 cents higher than a month ago and 61 cents above the price recorded at the same time last year.
AAA attributed the increase to sharp swings in oil and gasoline markets following the conflict involving Iran. In the first week of the conflict, U.S. crude oil prices rose 36 percent, or $23.88 per barrel, amid concerns about possible supply disruptions and instability along major oil shipping routes. Continued uncertainty pushed oil prices up by another $8 per barrel late last week, while gasoline futures climbed 29 cents over the week and 96 cents over the past two weeks.
“Florida drivers may see another round of price hikes in the coming days as stations adjust to rising wholesale costs,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA.
Among metro areas, West Palm Beach-Boca Raton posted the highest average at $3.89 per gallon, while Crestview-Fort Walton Beach had the lowest at $3.41.
