Florida gas prices rose by more than six cents last week to $3.46 per gallon, but potential declines are anticipated as crude oil prices have dropped sharply amid economic slowdown concerns.
Florida gas prices rose slightly last week, increasing by a little more than six cents, bringing the state average to $3.46 per gallon as of Sunday, according to the latest data from AAA .
Despite the uptick, there are indications that prices may decline in the near future, as fundamentals in the market appear to be moving lower. Mark Jenkins, a spokesman for AAA, noted that while prices increased last week, the broader trends in crude oil and gasoline futures suggest a potential for price reductions.
“Crude oil and gasoline futures prices finished the week sharply lower than the week before, which should enable gas prices to decline,” Jenkins said.
The U.S. price for crude oil has been on a downward trajectory for the past four weeks, falling approximately $10 per barrel, or 13 percent, during that period. On Friday, crude oil closed at $73.52 per barrel, marking the lowest daily closing price since June 4. The decline in futures prices followed the latest jobs report, which raised concerns about a potential economic slowdown, according to Jenkins.
In terms of regional variations, West Palm Beach-Boca Raton recorded the highest gas prices in the state at $3.61 per gallon, followed by Naples at $3.51 and Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater at $3.50. Conversely, Pensacola and Crestview-Fort Walton Beach had the lowest prices at $3.11, with Panama City close behind at $3.15.
