Republican congressional candidate Kat Cammack continues to build on a steady momentum of local and national leaders backing her campaign for Florida’s 3rd Congressional District, picking up an endorsement from Gilchrist County Sheriff Bobby Schultz on Monday.
“Kat Cammack is the only person running for her district’s congressional seat who actually has verified experience fighting for all the issues which are important to her district’s constituents,” said Schultz. “I know Congressman Yoho and Kat both personally and professionally. There is not a back-down bone in her body and she is cut from the same cloth he is.”
“I am confident that all the folks running for this seat are fine, decent individuals with great intentions and credentials. However, Kat is someone who has been boots on the ground for 8 years, worked alongside a great Congressman like Ted, done her best, and fought for the people of the district. In my humble opinion, the choice is abundantly clear,”
he continued.
Schultz, who is the incoming President of the Florida Sheriff’s Association, has an extensive background in law enforcement. He was elected as Gilchrist sheriff in 2012 and re-elected in 2016. He has also served the Lancaster Correctional Institution, Chiefland Police Department, Levy County Sheriff ’s Office, Eighth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office, and Eighth Judicial Circuit Public Defenders Office.
Cammack, a small business owner and former deputy chief of staff for U.S. Congressman Ted Yoho, has consistently been rolling out new endorsements since the start of her campaign. Some of her biggest backers to date include U.S. Senator Rand Paul, We Build the Wall founder Brian Kolfage and several mayors across the district.
Cammack responded, “Such words of support from Sheriff Bobby Schultz is an incredible honor. Spending his career in law enforcement, he has committed his life to protecting our families and friends. He serves as an expert on the issues facing the sheriff’s and correctional departments across the District. If elected, I vow to advocate fiercely for our local law enforcement officers who ensure we can live and work in safe communities.”
In addition to several national endorsements and coalitions released by the campaign since Cammack announced her candidacy, she has been endorsed by others in the law enforcement community, including Sheriff Robert McCallum, Jr., and has built a coalition of first responders spanning across the district.
Cammack is one of 10 Republicans looking to replace Yoho who is retiring at the end of his current term.
Also seeking the GOP nomination are businessman Judson Sapp, Clay County Commissioner Gavin Rollins, Gainesville City Commissioner Todd Chase, former congressional aide Joe Millado, physician James St. George, businessman Ryan Chamberlin, businessman Bill Engelbrecht, businessman David Theus, and businesswoman Amy Pope Wells.
CD 3 includes Alachua, Bradford, Marion, Union, Putnam, and Clay counties and is largely made up of Republican voters. Yoho won the red district in 2016 earning 57.6% of the vote.
