Bob Cortes continues to roll out endorsements in his bid to take back House District 30. On Thursday, his campaign announced that he has been endorsed by the Greater Orlando Builders Association (GOBA).
“Bob has been a champion and advocate for housing affordability and for creating in-demand high wage jobs in the homebuilding industry,” said Lee Steinhauer, Government and Legal Affairs Director for GOBA. “We are proud to support him.”
The Greater Orlando Builders Association, which was founded in 1953 and serves the construction industry in Seminole, Orange, and Osceola Counties, including its cities, represents and promotes the building industry within Greater Orlando, as well as at the State and National levels.
GOBA is the authority, educator, and promoter of the housing and building industry and serves more than 700 members. Among the objectives of their membership is to encourage higher standard practices through education and to take a proactive role in governmental and regulatory activities that impact the construction industry.
“I’m honored by the support of the Greater Orlando builders,” said Cortes. “We can restore economic activity and prosperity if we work together and find public policies that support our free enterprise, not interfere with it. I will be committed to a pro-jobs platform in the Florida House, and I look forward to seeing more building and construction in our region.”
GOBA joins BusinessForce and the Central Florida Chapter Associated Builders and Contractors in backing Cortes’ bid.
Cortes was born in Brooklyn, New York before moving to Puerto Rico where he was raised. He moved Altamonte Springs before residing in Longwood where he founded two businesses: Cortes Towing Service and Cortrans Shuttle Service. Before being elected to the Florida House, Cortes served on the Longwood City Commission from 2009 to 2014.
He was first elected to the chamber in 2014 where he served as Vice Chairman of the Education Committee and the Transportation & Infrastructure Sub Committee. He also served as the Majority Deputy Whip from 2016 to 2018.
Following his departure from the House, Cortes remained active, serving on the Seminole State College board of trustees after being appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis last August. He also served on the governor’s transition team back in 2018.
The seat is currently held by Democratic Representative Joy Goff-Marcil.
