Joe Gruters touts Trump as ‘economic heavyweight champion of the world’ in RNC speech

The 2020 Republican National Convention kicked off on Monday, with State Senator Joe Gruters delivering a powerful speech renominating President Donald Trump on behalf of the Sunshine State.

Gruters, who serves as chair of the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF), didn’t mince words in his support of the president, discussing his myriad of accomplishments during his first term, while crowning Trump the “economic heavyweight champion of the world.”

“I rise today to second the nomination of the economic heavyweight champion of the world, Donald J. Trump, to be the Republican nominee for president,” Gruters said. “Who better to lead our country out of the economic impacts that we face as a result of the Wuhan virus than the president who has already delivered us record low unemployment for African Americans, for Hispanics, for Asian Americans, for women, and for Americans without college degrees?”

The Sarasota Senator also praised the president’s “pro-American agenda,” noting his commitment to the military while adding that Trump is not “defunding the police, he’s defending the police.”

This isn’t Gruters’ first rodeo. The Republican official is one of the president’s closest allies in Florida and was one of the first politicians to hop on the Trump train back in 2016. Playing an instrumental part in Trump’s 2016 victory, Gruters will once again look to use his connections and name recognition to keep the president in the White House this November.

Gruters, however, is not the only prominent Floridian headlining the convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. Others set to speak include Congressman Matt Gaetz, school safety activist, Andrew Pollack, former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Lieutenant Gov. Jeanette Núñez.

Gruters was also joined at today’s nomination by the RPOF delegation, which includes Vice Chair Christian Ziegler. The dynamic duo will be a vital piece to Trump’s reelection puzzle and will look to secure the all-important I-4 corridor and turn Florida red again in 2020.

“Chairman Gruters made it crystal clear that Florida rejects the extreme radical Left agenda of the Biden-Harris ticket and that the Republican Party of Florida and Trump-Pence stand with our law enforcement,” Ziegler said following Gruters’ speech.
