Miami Mayor Francis Suarez is backing Republican Vicki Lopez for House District 113.
Suarez is a Miami native who was first elected in 2017 with 86 percent support from Miami residents. Prior to serving as Mayor, he served as Miami Commissioner in District 4 for eight years.

“Vicki is a strong believer in common sense government, and that is exactly what Florida needs right now,” said Suarez. “She is committed to enhancing our community’s quality of life, fighting to improve public safety, expand affordable housing, and preserve our environment. I completely endorse her campaign in District 113, I know she is the right candidate to serve us in the Florida House.”

Lopez is a longtime political activist who runs the Miami-based VLL Consulting. She is a former member of the Lee County Commission and served in state-appointed roles in the Florida Senate and under Governors Jeb Bush, Charlie Crist, and Rick Scott. She has also served in numerous leadership capacities within the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.

Lopez, who had originally entered the race for Senate District 38, made the switch to HD 113 in May. She defeated Alberto Perosch for the Republican primary on August 23. Lopez now faces Democrat AJ D’Amico in November.

“I am very honored to have Mayor Suarez’s endorsement for my campaign in District 113,” said Lopez in a Tuesday news release. “He understands the true purpose of government and has never failed to diligently serve the people of Miami. As State Representative, I look forward to working with him to address the issues important to my constituents, making our district a better place for generations to come.”

HD 113 encompasses the heart of Miami and includes Key Biscayne, Miami’s City Hall, Calle Ocho, Brickell Avenue, the Miami River, and the Port of Miami.
