One day, Democrats could return to power, let’s not give them any more bad ideas

One of several reasons that the American people rejected Kamala Harris and the Biden administration last November was the Democrat party’s shameless use of federal agencies to go after political opponents, and voters weren’t having it. The FBI targeting Donald Trump? The DOJ’s selective prosecutions? The IRS’s history of harassing conservative groups? Yeah, people noticed. And they responded by tossing the Democrats out on their ears.

But let’s acknowledge a commonly overlooked truth for a second: American politics is, and always has been, cyclical. This means that Democrats won’t be out of power forever. One day, hopefully a very long time from now, they’ll be back in charge. And if we Republicans spend our time settling scores by using government agencies the same way they did – well, let’s just say payback is going to be brutal.

Right now, some Republicans are salivating over the current drama unfolding at the FCC, cheering the now-GOP controlled agency on as it entertains an investigation against CBS News over its handling of a Kamala Harris interview. Was the CBS coverage biased? Of course. Was it selectively edited to make Harris look good? Almost certainly. But should a government agency be in the business of policing news outlets? Absolutely not.

If we let the FCC start punishing news networks for how they edit interviews, we’re basically handing future Democrat administrations a golden ticket to go after Fox News, Newsmax, conservative talk radio, and anyone else they don’t like. Including…little ole publishers like me. Do we really want to live in a world where the FCC gets to decide which news networks are “fair” and which ones need to be punished?

Because – if that’s the game we play now, the next Democratic president is going to crank these political shenanigans up to eleven. Suddenly, “fairness” will mean making sure conservative media gets neutered, regulated, or shut down entirely.

This isn’t the first time this has happened. Republicans have spent years calling out the left for weaponizing the federal government. We were right. They used the FBI, the DOJ, and every other three-letter agency to go after their political enemies. They turned bureaucracy into a blunt instrument to punish dissent. And in 2024, they paid for it at the ballot box.

But if we start doing the same thing – if we start using federal agencies to settle scores – then we’re just setting ourselves up for an even bigger smackdown when the pendulum swings back. And it always swings back. Always.

Instead of turning the FCC (or any other agency) into our personal enforcer, how about we focus on making sure these institutions can never be weaponized again? How about we strip them of their ability to act as political hit squads, regardless of who’s in charge?

Here’s the thing—conservatives don’t need government agencies to “correct” biased media. We’ve been winning the information war for years by building our own platforms. Podcasts, talk radio, and high-quality independent news sites, these are the tools that have allowed us to bypass the legacy media and speak directly to voters.

The last thing we should be doing is setting a precedent that gives future Democrat administrations the ability to crush those very platforms. Because let’s face it – when Democrats are in charge, their idea of “fairness” is making sure only their voices get heard.

So let’s be smart. Let’s not copy the left’s worst habits. Let’s not turn government agencies into political weapons just because we finally have the power to do it.

Because one day, we won’t have that power. And when that day comes, we don’t want to be on the receiving end of the exact same game we just played.
