This year’s travel forecast for the 4th of July will set new records, AAA predicts, with 4.5 million Floridians projected to travel next week.

The auto club released its estimated travel measures last week for domestic trips of 50 miles or more during a 9-day period betweenSaturday, June 29 to Sunday, July 7.

Florida’s 2024 forecast details a total of 4.5 million people traveling over the recorded time frame. Of those 4.5 million people, 3.9 million reported automobile usage, 324,263 reported air travel usage, and 195,420 reported other travel usage.

“The summer travel season is off to a hot start, and we expect to set new travel records on the road and in the sky during the week of Independence Day,” said Debbie Haas, Vice President of Travel for AAA.

Compared to 2023 and 2022, AAA accounted for a growing travel trend during this period. In 2023, Florida’s Independence Day travel volumes reached 4.2 million people, and 3.6 million people in 2022.

With the rise in travel, consumer spending is projected to increase by 5.5% compared to last year, while real GDP growth is up by 2.5%. Additionally, consumer confidence saw a boost in May, and gas prices averaged $0.07 higher than the same period last year.
