Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) came to former Vice President Joe Biden’s (D) defense today, viewing the recent accusations of inappropriate conduct against him from years ago as a political hit. Biden, frequently photographed and videoed being physically affectionate over the years, has been accused by two different women this week who said that he invaded their personal space and made them uncomfortable by kissing the top of their heads, embracing them, and other unwelcome physical contact.
Reporters with TMZ.com caught up with Rubio at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. and asked for his thoughts about Biden’s situation.
Rubio pointed out that the alleged conduct was years old and “someone had that information and was sitting on it, waiting for the right time to hit him with it.”
“That’s how it is when you run for president,” continued Rubio, himself a 2016 contender for the GOP presidential nomination. He also scoffed at the Democrats’ public vows that they would not “talk dirty” about each other, when the campaigns were clearly feeding negative stories to the media.
“It just is what it is,” replied Rubio when asked by TMZ if this was an example of dirty politics.
As TMZ noted, Biden is not accused of sexual misconduct or anything that would constitute criminal activity, and none of these accusations are recent — or surprising. Katherine Miller at Buzzfeed pointed out what should have been an obvious truth in an article yesterday titled, “Everyone Already Knows How They Feel About Joe Biden Touching Women.”
