Sad! Palm Beach Post Admits “Lack of Understanding” Over Trump

by | Nov 16, 2016

In a Tuesday post on Facebook, the Editorial Board of the Palm Beach Post says it wants to talk to people who voted “for Donald J. Trump to become President of the United States.” But, there’s a catch. You’re not allowed to shout at the editorial board, or judge them. That immediately rules me out. I’d be more than willing to meet with them, but I can’t guarantee I’d do it without judgement.

Here’s the full text of the facebook post:

Did you vote for Donald J. Trump to become President of the United States? Are you willing to sit down with the The Palm Beach Post Editorial Board and tell us why? Please, email Editorial Page Editor Rick Christie at rchristie@pbpost.com.

We believe that a great deal of the current divisiveness in the wake of the election comes from a lack of understanding. We’d like to try to bridge that gap, if at all possible. And we’d like to do it without shouting and judgement… Thank you.

After 24 hours, the post has been shared just under 20 times, and has garnered about 122 comments from both sides of the aisle. There’s even some civil discourse going on there, but not much.

Here’s a few excerpts from the choicest comments:

Cp Thompson Trust you? Are you for real after all the bashing and one sided pretend journalism of the past year?

Todd Rich Or without judgment, even. Are you hiring copy editors, too?

Scott Ernst  I’ll explain the Trump supporter to your ignorant staff, but you must pay me for my time.

Dean Miller Try reading the Federalist Papers, Constitution, and Bill of Rights first… That would be a good start.

Laura Canfield Russell Trump voters…this is a trap. Another liberal rag who shilled for Clinton. Their polls were wrong because we were silent.

David M. Behsman Personally I’d rather encourage you people to keep on the same path you’re on. Maybe when you’re bankrupt, then you’ll get the idea.

Josh Klein Show me a positive Trump article then maybe. Why don’t you ask Clinton followers why they are so blind to the corruption she was involved in.

William Mooney You say there is divisiveness from the lack of understanding. This is true but Post you are a major factor in this. Your stories and headlines are so one sided. You created this.

Diane Longobardi Baker And, how f’n dare you ask us to explain our vote to a bunch of sore losers. No one explained their vote for Obama to me. Just sayin.

Rick McCarley Now that the election is over, you want to know what the “other side” thinks? Is there any more proof that journalists live in a liberal bubble?

Jenn Stewart One of the reasons people voted for him might be this – they are sick of the media making up the news, instead of reporting it. Now, you have no choice but to sit there in your wrongness & be wrong & actually report that you either lied, or suck at reporting. Take your pick, I feel most will be satisfied with either.

I could go all day with this. Some of the comments are truly priceless. But you have to hand it to the Post Ed Board, at least they’re trying. Here’s a link, and a screen cap of the post:
