Shortly after four Florida Air National Guard F-15 Eagle fighter jets roared low over the state capitol complex marking the ceremonial passing of the torch from Rick Scott to new Governor Ron DeSantis, a small detachment of Scott’s usually larger security detail whisked him away from the Inauguration fanfare and drove him to Scott’s private jet, waiting on the tarmac to fly him to Washington D.C. After the FDLE agents bid farewell to the man they’d protected for eight years, Scott made his way to downtown Washington D.C., where, with U.S. Marco Rubio looking on, Vice-President Mike Pence administered the oath of office and Scott became the newest U.S. Senator.

Later that evening, while Florida’s political insiders converged on Ron DeSantis’s inaugural ball, many Floridians with business or connections in Washington D.C. attended the Florida Sunshine ball with Senator Scott and Ann Scott.
