With Florida’s economy humming along and powered by small business owners, it’s no surprise that NFIB, the state’s leading small business advocacy organization, announced its full support and endorsement of Ashley Moody for Attorney General of Florida. NFIB announced the endorsement during a roundtable meeting with small business leaders at Parliment Building Products in Jacksonville. The company is a NFIB member.
The choice of Moody was an obvious one, given that her opponent, Democrat Sean Shaw, has frightened business owners and entrepreneurs with talk of disruptive lawsuits that could upset Florida’s healthy economy. He is campaigning on a platform of being an “activist” attorney general who will seek out legal battles that cause uncertainty, increase business risk and spike costs. By contrast, Moody, who recently served as a circuit court judge, is campaigning as a law-and-order candidate who will maintain stability and protect consumers and business owners alike.
“Ashley Moody’s support for policies that support small business and free enterprise make her the best candidate for Attorney General of Florida,” said NFIB’s Florida Executive Director Bill Herrle. “It’s imperative that we elect an Attorney General who will stand up for the constitutional rights of small business owners, and Ashley understands that preventing government overreach and stopping government waste is the best way to help small businesses and our economy grow.”
The endorsement was made by the NFIB Florida PAC, which is comprised exclusively of NFIB members.
“Thank you to the National Federation of Independent Business for their endorsement of my candidacy to become Florida’s next Attorney General,” Moody said in a press release announcing the endorsement. “Small business owners are the backbone of Florida’s economy, employing local friends and neighbors. As Florida’s next chief legal officer and top prosecutor, I am committed to ensuring our communities are safe and that Florida remains a top destination to achieve the entrepreneurial dream.”
NFIB is Florida’s leading small business advocacy organization, with nearly 10,000 small business owner members in Florida. According to the NFIB release, the NFIB Florida PAC’s endorsement is significant in an important election year. Small business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for actively recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to go to the polls. NFIB’s political support is based on candidates’ positions and records on small-business issues.
