Another agency head appointed by Governor Rick Scott is leaving his post.
This time, it’s Brian Koon, the director of Emergency Management.
With two more months still left for hurricane season and as the state continues to recover from Hurricane Irma, Gov. Scott’s office announced Koon’s departure “to pursue an opportunity in the private sector” effective Sunday. Koon has been with Emergency Management since 2011.
Also from the same release, Wes Maul has been named interim director of Emergency Management.
“Since day one, Bryan has done an excellent job ensuring our state is prepared and able to respond to countless weather events including Hurricanes Hermine, Matthew and Irma,” Scott said in the release.
According to Scott, Koon gave notice of his intent to leave in early September, but Scott requested Koon to stay in his position until the end of September since the “potential hurricanes forming in the Atlantic,” which Koon agreed to.
