Attorney General James Uthmeier on Monday named Bradley R. McVay as Florida’s next Statewide Prosecutor, selecting the election law attorney and former prosecutor to oversee multi-circuit criminal cases. McVay will be sworn in on Aug. 18 for a four-year term.

McVay most recently served as Deputy Secretary of State for Legal Affairs and Election Integrity, where he directed legal strategy for the Department of State, managed the Office of Election Crimes and Security, and defended Florida’s election laws in state and federal courts, including before the U.S. Supreme Court. He previously worked at the Department of Management Services, in private litigation practice, and as a prosecutor in the Eighth Judicial Circuit.

“Brad is a proven constitutional conservative, experienced litigator, and criminal prosecutor who has defended Florida’s laws and elections in the courtroom and beyond,” said Attorney General Uthmeier. “He understands the stakes and shares our commitment to law and order. I have full confidence he will lead the Office of Statewide Prosecution with strength and integrity.”

McVay, a graduate of Florida State University College of Law, is a member of the Republican National Lawyers Association and the Federalist Society. Gov. Ron DeSantis recently appointed him to the First District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission.

The Office of Statewide Prosecution, part of the Attorney General’s Office, is authorized under the state constitution to prosecute organized criminal activity that spans two or more judicial circuits.
