Derek Jones, the Central Florida Region Executive of Wells Fargo Bank in Orlando, was named Chair of the Florida Bankers Association (FBA) on Friday following the organization’s annual meeting.

Jones, who succeeds President and CEO of Grove Bank & Trust Jose Cueto, will oversee several initiatives, including the selection process for the FBA’s new CEO, Kathy Kraninger, and the implementation of the organization’s 2024-27 strategic plan.

“Getting the next generation of bankers involved is a continual priority, and there are opportunities for us to enhance our approach,” Jones said in a prepared release. “When you look at who’s around the table in the boardrooms, it’s the leaders of our banks. How can we contribute to shaping the future? The future depends on the next generation of banking leaders, and it’s important to engage those emerging leaders in advocacy.”

Jones, who moved to Florida during the Wells Fargo/Wachovia National Bank merger, currently oversees nine district managers responsible for 106 branches across 12 counties in the Orlando and Tampa Metropolitan areas

“Developing talent is a key focus at Wells Fargo because you’re only as good as your team,” Jones said. “Our company’s ability to provide tools and resources for employees to grow is something I value greatly.”

Kathy Kraninger, FBA President and CEO, expressed her support for Jones, noting his dedication to the banking industry and his commitment to making a positive impact on customers and communities.

“His appreciation for bankers’ impact makes him an ideal leader and advocate for the banking industry in our state,” Kraninger said.

Jones will be succeeded by Keith Costello, Chairman, President, CEO, and co-founder of Locality Bank, who is set to serve as FBA Chair in 2025-2026.
