Emoji-Meter: Hurricane Sally, Andrew Gillum, Jamie Grosshans and more!

Sometimes words just arenā€™t enough.

Hurricane Sally

The Category 2 hurricane made landfall on Wednesday, battering Florida and other parts of Alabama. Pensacola was especially hit hard, with the city receiving 30 inches of rain and a storm surge that saw much of downtown underwater. With much of the city flooded and the Pensacola Bay Bridge out of commission, the city will now start the long road to recovery.

Andrew Gillum

The former Democratic gubernatorial candidate made headlines earlier this week, coming out as bisexual in an interview with talk show host Tamron Hall. Democrats across the state celebrated Gillumā€™s announcement, praising the former CNN contributor for telling ā€œhis truth.ā€ Fortunately, thereā€™s no such thing as ā€œhis truth.ā€ The objective truth, however, is real, and Democrats would be wise to recognize it.

Jamie Grosshans

Last Friday, the Florida Supreme Court issued a ruling that because Palm Beach Circuit Judge Renatha Francis is currently not qualified by the rules of the state constitution to be a Florida Supreme Court justice. The scuffle resulted in Governor Ron DeSantis replacing Francis with Judge Grosshans of the 5th District Court of Appeal. Grosshans will feel the vacancy, being the only woman on the stateā€™s highest court.

Renatha Francis

While DeSantis was unable to get his initial pick on the seven-member court, Francis may have a future at the federal level. Prior to Grosshansā€™s appointment, DeSantis made a call to President Donald Trump, asking the president to appoint Francis as a federal judge. While itā€™s unclear if the president will do DeSantis the favor, we are certain Jamaican-born judge will land on her feet.

Constitution Day

On September 17th, 1787, the Founding Fathers signed the most influential document in American history ā€” the U.S. Constitution. Fast forward 233 years later, and that profound paper still holds true. Happy Constitution Day!
