Republican candidate Kat Cammack has been on a roll lately, picking up endorsements from Republican leaders and raising money for her bid to represent Florida’s 3rd Congressional District.

On Wednesday, the former chief of staff of outgoing U.S. Representative Ted Yoho landed another key endorsement, with Tea Party Express getting onboard with Cammack’s candidacy.

The Tea Party Express, a California-based political action committee (PAC), supports the party movement while working to identify and provide support for conservative candidates that ” champion tea party values” and “uphold Constitutional principles that have made America the ‘shining city on a hill.'”

According to their website, the Tea Party Express stands on 6 principles:

  • No more bailouts
  • Reduce the size and intrusiveness of government
  • Stop raising our taxes
  • Repeal Obamacare
  • Cease out-of-control spending
  • Bring back American prosperity

The group was founded by longtime Republican strategist Sal Russo, a founder and principal partner of Russo Marsh & Rogers who got his start in politics as a volunteer for Ronald Reagan’s 1966 gubernatorial campaign in California.

In a press release issued by the Cammack campaign, Russo praised Cammack’s work alongside Yoho, citing that her contribution and firsthand knowledge on the issues makes her the obvious choice to represent the red district.

“During his four terms in Congress, Congressman Ted Yoho has been a stalwart advocate for Tea Party principles. We cannot think of a better person to succeed Congressman Yoho than his Deputy Chief of Staff, Kat Cammack, who has worked tirelessly at his side for many years. Yoho is a member of the House Freedom Caucus, and he has fought to curb the power of federal bureaucracy, lower taxes, and slash wasteful spending. While we are sad to lose a stalwart conservative like Ted in Congress, we thank him for his leadership and commend him for remaining true to his pledge to only serve four terms.

“When the Tea Party Express bus first rolled through Florida, Kat was one of the first people to enthusiastically greet us, and we were impressed by her leadership abilities on the grassroots level and her embrace of Tea Party principles. Having grown up on a cattle ranch and worked in her family’s small businesses, Kat witnessed the failures of overregulation and high taxes firsthand. Her disillusion with the failures of heavy-handed government led her to become involved in politics. Serving alongside Congressman Yoho since the day he was elected, Kat led his efforts to implement policies that encourage investment and create jobs. She is not afraid to stand up to business as usual in Washington, and she will be a strong voice for fiscal restraint and economic freedom.

“With Democrats falsely laying blame for the coronavirus at President Trump’s feet and using it to advance their big government agenda, it is critical to elect conservatives to Congress. The liberals’ appetite for running up the deficit through pork barrel spending and left-wing social programs only undermines our economic recovery and drives up the federal budget deficit. We need conservative leaders like Kat Cammack who understand that government must stop the irresponsible spending and get out of the way so that entrepreneurs and job creators can put America back to work again,” Russo concluded

Cammack, a small business owner and longtime deputy chief of staff for Yoho, called today’s endorsement a testament to her commitment to supporting President Donald Trump‘s agenda.

“Earning the support of our conservative grassroots is crucial to winning an election in this district. I am proud to be running a strong campaign focused on supporting President Trump, building the wall, protecting the Second Amendment, and defending life,” Cammack said. “These crucial issues are the same that grassroots conservatives across the country are advocating for every day. I have spent many years fighting alongside our grassroots activists and am proud to continue to do so in this campaign.

“I truly appreciate the Tea Party Express’ endorsement and I am thankful for their support in our race.”

Today’s news follows a string of recent endorsements that Cammack has landed, including the backing from U.S. Senator Rand Paul.

FL-03 covers Alachua, Bradford, Marion, Union, Putnam, and Clay counties and is largely made up of Republican voters. Yoho won the red district in 2016 earning 57.6% of the vote.
