Sen. Rick Scott announced his plan on Sunday to introduce a resolution urging the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Joe Biden, citing concerns over Biden’s health and capability to fulfill his duties, following Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Sen. Rick Scott announced on Sunday his intention to introduce a resolution urging the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Joe Biden from office.

In a post on X, Scott contended that Biden’s current health risks “pose a threat to national security” and that he is not fit to fulfill the duties of the presidency.

“This week, I’ll be introducing a resolution to urge the cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment,” he said. “Biden is not capable of fulfilling the requirements of the job, and that poses a threat to our national security.”

The 25th Amendment, which allows for the removal of a president unable to perform the responsibilities of the office, is a rarely invoked measure.

“Joe Biden shouldn’t be running our country if he can’t run for re-election,” Scott wrote.

The President, 81, has faced criticism regarding his age and health, culminating in his decision on Sunday afternoon to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, citing personal health concerns.

Vice President Kamala Harris was subsequently endorsed by Biden as the Democratic nominee.

Scott’s resolution is expected to face opposition from Democrats and may not gain substantial support in a divided Congress.

Following Harris’ endorsement, Gov. Ron DeSantis accused Harris of being complicit in a cover-up regarding Biden’s ability to fulfill his presidential duties, suggesting that she, along with other officials, concealed Biden’s alleged incapacity.

“Kamala Harris was complicit in a massive coverup to hide and deny the fact that Joe Biden was not capable of discharging the duties of the office,” he wrote on X.

DeSantis further criticized Harris’ role as “border czar” during what he described as the worst border crisis in American history, pointing to perceived failures in her handling of immigration issues.

“She also was the the border czar during the worst border crisis in American history,” DeSantis continued. “Democrats are just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.”
