President Donald Trump announced Friday that the United States will host the 2026 G20 leaders’ summit at Trump National Doral in Miami-Dade County.
The 2026 G20 dates have not yet been officially confirmed, but CBS News cited internal White House communications listing December 14–15 as tentative. The U.S. will hold the G20 presidency from December 1, 2025, to November 30, 2026. The most recent U.S.-hosted G20 leaders’ summit took place in Pittsburgh in 2009 under President Barack Obama, marking the group’s emergence as the primary forum for international economic coordination.
“The best location is right here,” Trump said during an Oval Office appearance alongside Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and Doral Mayor Christi Fraga. President Trump pointed to the resort’s proximity to Miami International Airport and its on-site capacity to host foreign delegations, including large meeting rooms, secure lodging, and motorcade infrastructure.
“The greatest city in the world is ready to welcome the world’s leaders,” said Suarez. “Thank you, President Trump, for choosing Miami as the stage for peace through strength.”
White House officials stated that participating governments will be billed “at cost,” and that Trump will not profit from the event. They also noted that the president’s assets are managed by a third party.
Local leaders welcomed the announcement. Suarez called it a “tremendous boom” for the region’s economy and an opportunity to highlight Miami as a global city. “This puts us on the world stage,” he said in remarks covered by WLRN. Fraga said in a post on X that “Doral is ready to shine.”
The G20 includes 19 of the world’s largest economies, the European Union, and—since 2023—the African Union. While the summit focuses primarily on global economic coordination, recent gatherings have also addressed issues such as energy policy, artificial intelligence, public health, and geopolitical stability.
