Alex Sink, a former Florida chief financial officer and the Democratic nominee for governor in 2010, endorsed David Jolly’s gubernatorial campaign Monday as the former congressman continues to build support for his 2026 bid.
Sink, who served as CFO from 2007 to 2011, said she is backing Jolly after meeting with him and his wife, Laura, over the past year and watching his campaign travel the state. In a statement, she said Jolly has drawn audiences that include Democrats, independents and Republicans and said his campaign is focused on issues facing Florida residents.
““David Jolly is the leader we need to elect as our next governor,” she said. “He will attack critical problems: the rising cost of housing, high insurance and utility rates, and—most especially—he will confront the corruption rampant in Tallahassee among special interests.”
Sink said her background as the state’s former chief financial officer informed her support for Jolly, saying she wants a governor who will hold state government accountable for taxpayer spending.
Jolly, a former Republican congressman from Pinellas County who is running as a Democrat, has centered his campaign on affordability, public education, protecting rights and reducing partisanship in state government.
“Alex Sink has spent her career putting Florida first,” Jolly said. “She has earned the trust and respect of people across the political spectrum because she leads with integrity, focuses on results, and never loses sight of who she’s serving.”
The endorsement follows Jolly’s May announcement that his campaign had added three senior advisers: national Democratic strategist Joe Trippi, policy adviser Kimberly G. Jackson and Florida political consultant Christian Ulvert.
