National Democrats back Mucarsel-Powell with multimillion-dollar ad blitz

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee announced a multimillion-dollar investment in television advertising to support Debbie Mucarsel-Powell in her challenge against Republican Sen. Rick Scott.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) announced on Thursday a multimillion-dollar investment in television advertising for Florida’s 2024 Senate race, supporting Democratic candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell as she challenges incumbent Republican Sen. Rick Scott.

According to the DSCC, the new ad spending will focus on highlighting Senator Scott’s record, which the committee characterizes as “unpopular among voters. This investment will supplement television advertising already planned by Mucarsel-Powell’s campaign, with the DSCC signaling that additional resources could be allocated as the election cycle progresses. In parallel, the organization confirmed that it will also target Texas’ Senate race in an effort to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz.

“Senate Democrats are expanding the map and going on offense,” said Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chair Sen. Gary Peters. “All cycle long, the DSCC has been preparing to capitalize on Sens. Cruz and Scott’s vulnerable standings in their states—and now, our efforts in Texas and Florida are accelerating.”

The new funding commitment follows recent polling data that highlights growing challenges for Democrats in the Montana Senate race between incumbent Democrat Jon Tester and Republican Tim Sheehy. This shift has led to a recalibration of resources within the party. A Napolitan News survey recently found Sheehy to hold a seven-point lead, marking a shift from earlier polls where Tester held a narrow advantage.

“Democrats have strong candidates running effective campaigns in both states, and as we intensify our communications against Sens. Cruz and Scott, we will crystallize the case against them,” Peters added.

The DSCC’s Florida effort is part of a broader national strategy, which includes a previously announced $25 million voter outreach initiative spanning 10 states, including Florida. Additionally, part of a $79 million nationwide advertising initiative has been earmarked for the state. To further bolster its efforts, the DSCC has deployed field staff in multiple states to closely monitor and counter Republican messaging.

A poll published this week by the Independent Center shows a competitive race between Scott and Mucarsel-Powell, with the incumbent senator garnering 46 percent support, compared to 44 percent for Mucarsel-Powell. Ten percent of voters remain undecided.
